From humble beginnings…. Fabbit Customs is not a new company. To get to the start we need to rewind all the way to 1989. Ben Corbett saw a need to help the many used car lots in the area with general repairs to their inventory. He named this company Corbett’s Auto Clinic. This service soon expanded to the surrounding community offering general automotive repairs and tires.
Fast forward to 1993 and enters Michael Faucher. While still attending school for paint and body the operations were expanded to include paint & body work along with collision repairs. We quickly expanded to restoration and the name was changed to Corbett’s Auto Restoration. The first restoration job was a 1952 Chevy sedan (pictured to the left). Dealing with insurance repairs was profitable, but did not allow time to do the quality of work that so many of our current customers demand.
By 1994 the switch to just restoration was well underway and future was bright. Major jobs from the early days included a frame off restoration of a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air, a complete restoration on a 1966 Mustang Convertible and a lot of rust repair to a 1941 Chevy.
Advertising was very expensive in the early days and budgets were very low. The advent of the internet and many T.V. shows highlighting the hobby slowly began to change. In 2002 a web sight was built and things began to grow quite rapidly. More space was needed and the company moved to its current location in Cherryville, NC in 2005.
Changing with the times is what has kept us going and we will continue to roll with the times and do the work that both highlights our talents as well as meets the demands of our customers. In the early days the most difficult thing to find was a one stop shop for restoration. Today the need seems to be in custom fabrication, rust repair and built from scratch customs. It is this need that prompted the decision to change the name to Fabbit Customs. It seems to better suit the services we offer.
Look over the pictures of our work here and on our Facebook page. Read over all of the text. But…. If you want to truly get a feel for who we are you need to contact us directly or pay a visit to our shop. No amount of words can describe the difference. It is simply something you have to experience first hand.
